Therefore, whenever you obtain new training materials, you must perform assessment tool validation before allowing students to use them. There's no need to wait for your next 5-year cycle validation schedule. Review new tools as soon as possible to confirm they are appropriate for students.

Nevertheless, this isn't the only reason to do this type of validation. Perform assessment tool validation also when you:

- Improve your resources
- Introduce new training products on scope
- Check your course against training product updates
- Note your learning resources as a risk during your risk assessment

- Other Related Resources: These may include lists, evaluation registers, and templates designed separately from the student workbook and marking guide. Validate these to ensure they fit the assessment task and meet subject requirements.

Validation Panel

Clause 1.11 specifies the requirements for panel members. It states assessment validation can be performed by one or more people. However, RTOs usually ask all trainers and evaluators to participate, sometimes including sector experts.

Collectively, your panel must have:

- Vocational Skills and Current Professional Skills relevant to the unit under validation.
- Current Expertise in Vocational Teaching and Learning.

Pay attention to lists. As mentioned earlier, if students do not complete all the tasks listed, it’s not compliant. Each evaluation task must address all criteria, or the student is incompetent, and the assessment tool is non-compliant.

Be Specific!

Each evaluation task must have clear and specific reference answers to guide the evaluator’s decision on the student’s competence. Therefore, it’s crucial that your directions do not mislead students or evaluators.

Steering clear of double-barrelled questions makes it easier for students to respond and for trainers to accurately assess student competence.
